Funeral held for Pompano Beach firefighter
A funeral is held for a Pompano Beach firefighter who died after falling 90 feet from a ladder during a training exercise last week.
William Elliott, 50, died Jan. 6 after falling from a ladder at Fire Station 61 at 2121 NW Third Ave. He was rushed to North Broward Medical Center after the fall and was pronouced dead.
"He was one of the most skilled people and responsible people we know," said Pompano Beach Fire Chief Henry Small last week.
"Everybody is just in shock right now," said Pompano Beach Mayor Lamar Fisher. "This is the first ever, in the Pompano Beach Fire Department, we've lost a life on duty."
Elliot had been with Pompano Beach Fire Rescue since 1989.
A viewing was held Thursday, and a public funeral mass was set for Friday afternoon.
